Glock 48 Concealed Carry - Glock is always busy. They released the Gen-5 models in the late 2020s with some new variants. It's clear that Glock has no intention of slowing down and is listening to customer feedback for continued upgrades. I know what you're thinking. “Glock puts a new number on the same plastic frame and boom, there's a new Glock.” That's not true at all with some of the recent additions to the line—including the concealed-carry-focused Glock 48 we have for this review.
Glock introduced the 9mm Luger Glock 48 in January 2019 as part of a joint release with the Glock 43X. As is the case with most Glocks, the 48 is an Austrian-made pistol. Without going into too much detail about the differences between the 43X and the 48, the 48 is essentially the same gun outside of the longer slide and barrel length.

A common complaint among those trying out compact firearms is the short barrel length and sight radius. Glock mated the Glock 19 with the 43X to get the G48. Not really, but the barrel and slide are almost identical in length. The G48 would be a very suitable and lean cousin to the Glock 19.

Glock is clearly listening to their customer base and wanted to provide an option that is even more concealable than the G19. Not only is the 48 concealable, but it's also lightweight – something that not all gun companies are able to offer.
Many people in the concealed carry community are increasingly looking for simplified options. With a standard 10+1 capacity, the G48 delivers a respectable amount of firepower for its frame size. This push towards a thinner weapon that still provides enough grip is something I'm a big proponent of. Glock came in here.
When I first received the Glock 48 for this review, my first thought was, "Well that looks a little weird."
The length of the slide on a weapon as thin as the G48 provides a unique aesthetic. The fit in the hand, however, was similar to what I'm used to with the G43X and I felt right at home with it. Glock has done a great job of creating a grip that feels very comfortable and natural - at least to me.

* I completely understand that most people either love or hate the Glock. Your first impression is likely to be influenced by some level of bias. As someone who owns several Glocks and admires most of their weapons, my first impression will be overwhelming.
My experience with the G48 in the range was similar to my experience with the G43X – no surprises there. The G48 seemed to handle recoil with a bit more refinement and I appreciated the increased scope radius. The longer (and thus heavier) slide and barrel made the G48 similar to the G19 in terms of shooting. Sure, it was a bit faster than the G19, but overall I was happy with the way it pulled and performed. My hands didn't feel like I was shooting a compact 9mm—even after several hundred rounds.
For this review, we fired a variety of ammo to make sure the G48 could handle everything I threw at it. Of course, in true Glock fashion, the G48 had no problem with any of the 9mm ammo I used. Several self-defense loads were tested during my time at the range – including the Federal Premium 147 gr. HST period.
If there are two things Glock aren't known for, it's their triggers and sights. They usually work, but they won't really stand out. Fortunately for me, the Glock 48 I tested was equipped with a set of Ameriglo night sights and saved me from having to shoot with stock sights.

These sights provided a blacked-out rear with a tritium front post - which proved quite easy to acquire and shoot. I personally prefer the fiber optic front sight, but this latter option is much better than the stock one in my opinion.

The longer barrel on the G48 (for the concealed carry option) provides a better length of scope radius. As someone used to shooting Glock 43Xs, this longer sight radius was appreciated – especially when shooting beyond 10 yards.
I generally can't find many good things to say about a stock Glock trigger, and well, the G48 is no exception. While it works well and has a fairly smooth action, the trigger safety blade really bothers me. It's something that bothers me in my personally owned G43X and makes me consider an aftermarket option. After about 50 rounds have been fired, the safety blade really starts to feel uncomfortable for me.

At the end of the day, in a CCV pistol, the G48 trigger will work just fine for most. My Glock 48 trigger testing with the Lyman scale showed an average pull weight of about 5.5 pounds.
The Glock offers a modern and simple platform – probably the main source of its appeal. Ease of use and a 'function over form' design make the G48 easy to shoot.
All functional features were easily accessible to me. The magazine release is prominent and requires just the right amount of pressure to release – something I feel is lacking in many newer pistols. The famous and elegant slide lock exists, but this one does the trick.
Glock has not included a standard accessory mounting rail on the Glock 48, but some light options are available. The fact that the slide and barrel are actually longer than the frame results in a unique aesthetic – as well as a supportive mounting surface. Available lights are primarily dependent on trigger guard mounting. One of the lights (currently from a limited selection) is the Streamlight TLR-6.
What Is The Best Glock For Concealed Carry 2022?
Since the G48 was designed with concealed carry in mind, I thought it appropriate to briefly touch on the subject of concealment.
Although the slide and barrel are on the longer side of things compared to most single 9mm options, concealment is simple. With an increase in length of less than an inch over the G43X, the G48 is compact in all the right areas. The low-profile handle and slim bezel make the accessory easy to carry.
As part of testing the Glock 48, I shot the most common self-defense round – the Federal Premium 147 gr. HST As part of this test, five rounds were fired with the Labrador muzzle velocity measuring device.
As long as the G48 barrel was around, I'm curious to see the results. Federal advertises a muzzle velocity of exactly 1,000 fps. from a 4-inch barrel. No real surprises here with the G48 readings.

In the booming concealed carry gun market, the G48 stands out to me. A pistol that offers ease of concealment, decent capacity and a long radius is unique. Combined with these features, I feel the G48 would be a great do-it-all gun – especially if you invest in Shield Arms 15 magazines.
If Glocks are worth the price to you, the G48 will be a reliable choice. From the bedside table to the belt, the G48 is a tool you can rely on. The Glock 48 has slowly become the most popular concealed carry weapon (CCV) on the planet with over 100,000 people per month searching for information and locations. Buy it.
I now own 3 CCVs and 2 of them are Glock 9mm pistols with a Walther that I carry around for special events or public outings. When choosing a CCV, I always look for the same qualities; Concealment, practicality, reliability, weight and performance.
Generally, if I can check the box for those 5 features, I will consider adding the pistol to my pistol rotation. It's no secret that Glock makes some of the most reliable handguns on the planet and there are hundreds of S&A articles that show that.

While reliability is important, if the gun doesn't work or can't be carried without printing, I have no use for it. For this reason, I am always more inclined to buy a Glock pistol than any other brand. Simply put, Glocks are good at everything.
I generally don't have time for many handguns that I don't carry with me in public places or hunting on public land. Personally, I love a good stainless steel 1911, but my loaded Springfield 1911 needs a full size pistol. Nostalgia aside, I prefer a gun that I will use more often and feel more comfortable in most situations.
